Sunny Cameron represented Jack Bays, Inc., a commercial general contractor based in McLean, Virginia, in a hotly contested mechanic’s lien enforcement case involving a failed new church construction project located in Prince William County. When the owner’s financing for the project was exhausted, Jack Bays and several of its subcontractors recorded mechanic’s liens against the project, the principal amount of the Jack Bays lien totaling nearly $6 million. The consolidated suits to enforce the liens were litigated through a lengthy trial before a Commissioner in Chancery who ultimately issued a report finding the liens to be valid and fully enforceable against the project. The Commissioner’s Report was then upheld in its entirety by the Prince William County Circuit Court and an appeal was taken by the various parties contesting the liens. In a unanimous opinion handed down by the Supreme Court in February 2013, the Court likewise concluded that the liens are valid and enforceable against the project.
